Today we’re happy to announce the new and definite name for the Project Space Sector working title. The new name is Interstellar Space: Genesis.

ISG Dev Diary #5: Leaders

Hi everyone!

In this new dev diary, we propose to discuss Leaders in Project Space Sector.

In our view, Leaders were one of the key ingredients that made Master of Orion 2 great and stand out from other space 4X games. Having officers commanding your ships and system governors managing your colonies gave the task of ruling a space empire much more flavor and character while enhancing the RPG elements of the game.

Of course, Leaders will return in Project Space Sector, and this time their impact in the game will be even more meaningful.

Hope you agree, and please enjoy this dev diary.

There are ship leaders and colony leaders...

ISG Dev Diary #4: Space Combat

Hi everyone, this week we propose to discuss our solution for the space combat!

The space combat design is heavily inspired by the space combat system of Master of Orion 2 with some novelties related with the inclusion of a heat system, energy overload actions and action credits.

The combat is turn-based and will be played in a square grid just like in MoO2. The ships will be 3D but with a top down view perspective like in MoO2. The 3D is here to justify some additional features that we are still testing to provide a better and more immersive combat experience.

In case you missed the announcement, Space Sector is developing a turn-based space 4X strategy game, with the working title of Project Space Sector, which will be a spiritual successor to Master of Orion 2...

ISG Dev Diary #3: Research

Hi everyone!

After a short break during the holidays we’re back on to releasing more dev diaries for Project Space Sector!

This time we propose to discuss Research.

In case you missed the announcement, Space Sector is developing a turn-based space 4X strategy game, which will be a spiritual successor to Master of Orion 2. You can find all dev diaries and other news regarding the development here.

Motivation and Rationale

We believe that a solid tech system is the backbone of a good 4X game. The number of technologies available in the game, the order at which they are picked and the pace at which they are unlocked are all crucial factors for a fun and fluid 4X gaming experience.

So, above all, we want the research system to offer a lot of choices, but also to be clear, easy to use and o...

ISG Dev Diary #2: Ship Design

Hi everyone!

This week we propose to discuss our Ship Design solution for Project Space Sector! 🙂

In case you missed the announcement, Space Sector is developing a turn-based space 4X strategy game, which will be a spiritual successor to Master of Orion 2. You can find all dev diaries and other news regarding the development here.

Motivation and Rationale

We believe ship design is one of the great and brilliant features of Master of Orion 2, so we saw no need in innovating much here. The basic concepts and mechanics were kept, now with just a few tweaks, twists and different looks.

Regarding the number of available designs to build, one could think of going down the “unlimited number of designs allowed” path but we favored a more constrained approach, because that fits better with ou...

ISG Dev Diary #1: Starmap and Exploration

space_sector_announcement2_600x338_final

Hi everyone!

Today we kick off a series of dev diaries for Project Space Sector, which we intend to be releasing in a 2-week or monthly fashion. In case you missed the announcement, Space Sector is developing a turn-based space 4X strategy game, which will be a spiritual successor to Master of Orion 2.

We start with the game’s starmap and exploration mechanics.

Motivation and Rationale

We believe that exploration is probably one of the best parts of a 4X game, and at the heart of what makes these games extremely fun to play, especially at the beginning.

And this is the issue: it’s usually good… “at the beginning”. The exploration experience, the curiosity feeling and the surprises that go along with it, usually end too soon...
